Try emulating the 5 fundamental principles to help you achieve your dream and live life to its fullest.
A bird that does not fly does not get to know where the food is. You have something powerful that the world will never get access to unless you allow it. You have an activated greatness in you and all you need to do is to start using it. If you are not using your gifts and talents to become a better you, you are abusing them. One of my favorite speakers, Les Brown, once said “if you do not use your gifts and talents you lose them.”
You and I both know that we have the gifts and the talents to peak performance. You know you can pass the tryouts, you know you can ace your classes, you know you can start your own business, you know you can get that promotion or that job, you know you can! But the question remains, how do I get started?
Earlier of this year I was speaking at a High School and from that event I experienced something that made me write this article. As I was speaking, most of the students were bawling and I could see a few with tears rolling down on their chicks. What they did not know is that I too had tears rolling inside me. I went to speak with a goal to at least impact one person. A day after, I was contacted by the school and was informed that one of the students had told his mom that I was the most inspirational person he has ever met. His mom had called the school and asked of me to mentor her child. I could not resist the opportunity from there I went and met the student. The student told me how he has never felt his activated greatness in himself but I had inspired him to recognize that he is powerful beyond measure. He asked me what you might be asking yourself, “How do I get started?”
The principles I am about to give you is what I shared with my mentee and it has worked for him. He is more motivated than ever, has reactivated his greatness and is now chasing his dream. Without further ado, here are five fundamental principles to help you unleash the greatness within.
1. Find Out What You Want To Accomplish and Write It Down
It is not enough to say I want to be successful and leave it at that. If I say to you that I want to travel the world you will probably ask me where I want to go. There are a lot of places to travel but I cannot travel to all of them at once. So I have to narrow down my list and pick where I want to go first. The same game is played when it comes to success. What do you really want to accomplish?
Just like traveling, it can be a great task trying to figure out what you really want to accomplish, especially when you have a thousand of things in your mind. Here is my tip: list all the things that you want to accomplish, and out of ten rank them from ten being the most important, and one being the least important. This gives you an idea of what you value the most and I strongly recommend starting working on the most important task.
2. Set Your Own Routine
A routine is a practice that is regularly followed. Every successful person has their own routine. Here is an easier way to create yours. Take a blank piece of paper the bigger the better and make it look like a blank calendar. Write down your daily schedule by writing down what you are going to be doing in every two hours. You should include your work times or your classes times. In addition, you must include the time you should wake up and the time you go to bed. With this schedule, you have to begin your day and you’ve got to end your day. In every empty slot you ought to write down what you should be doing to get closer to your goal. Remember to allow yourself some free time. Stick to your schedule as much as you can and examine it daily. This trick helps you achieve more in the day than most people do.
3. Do the Uncomfortable and Believe in the Process
There is no cherry picking when it comes to greatness. You have to do what is necessary to keep climbing. We are all climbing the walls of greatness but those who succeed do the uncomfortable even when they do not feel like it, because they know it is a must.
You know you can pass your classes but how much time are you investing in studying the material? You know you can start your own business but how much effort are you putting into it? You know you can make a sale, but how many phone calls are you making each day? If you want to succeed in life you have got to be tenacious and determined enough to keep going even in tougher times. You have to become familiar with the word resilience. The ability to get back up every time you fall, because you know that to be a failure is not the worst thing, the worse thing is to remain a failure.
4. Feed Your Mind, Body and Spirit
Learning never stops so is investing. I said it before, “it is all about putting in the right fuel!” I have lost a great amount of opportunities just because I was not fueling my mind, body and spirit the right fuel. Stop hanging around with people who do not help you achieve anything but mess up your character. An African proverb puts it best saying, “If you close your eyes to facts, you will learn through accidents.” Not too long ago since this happened to me. From the experience, I have learned that some people will shut down your dream if you do not watch out for them. So pay attention to what you read, listen, and watch, most importantly, pay attention to who you allow to come into your life.
5. Give Yourself a Reward Even When No One Else Does
You are not motivated by the process of your progress you are motivated by the progress you make during the process. You should consider giving yourself a reward for whatever progress you make. Setting small prizes for yourself will not only boost your energy but will increase your performance level. As result, you accomplish much more than you can ever imagine and growth rolls in and only increases like a snow ball effect.
Begin to willingly follow these five principles and you will find yourself at a next level living. Cherish every progress you make in your life and you will question not how to live a life of significance.
